The Game Awards 2015: pochi annunci, The Witcher 3 gioco dell’anno

Anche in questa edizione 2015 le statuette consegnate ai vincitori sono state disegnate dalla compagnia neo zelandese WETA Workshop. La rappresentazione di un angelo che emerge da una composizione di blocchi digitali intende simboleggiare l’evoluzione del medium videoludico e la sua collocazione tra le principali forme di intrattenimento dell’epoca contemporanea.

Nonostante l’agguerrita concorrenza gli sviluppatori di CD Projekt hanno tenuto banco e si sono tolti delle belle soddisfazioni. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt ha infatti conquistato il riconoscimento come gioco dell’anno, avendo la meglio su altri grandi titoli come Bloodborne, Metal Gear Solid V, Fallout 4 e Super Mario Maker. Il team polacco ha anche trionfato nelle categorie studio dell’anno e miglior RPG, a discapito di Bethesda e From Software. Bloodborne e Fallout 4 sono i principali delusi, essendo stati superati in tutte le categorie per cui avevano ricevuto una nomination. In compenso The Phantom Pain è riuscito a prevalere come miglior action-adventure e per la miglior colonna sonora, mentre Super Mario Maker è il miglior titolo indirizzato alle famiglie.

Il bilancio per Nintendo è positivo soprattutto in virtù dei due premi conquistati da Splatoon nelle categorie Best Multiplayer e Best Shooter, con buona pace dei soliti Call of Duty e Halo. La miglior performance è invece ad appannaggio del film interattivo Her Story, ideato da Sam Barlow con la partecipazione dell’attrice Viva Seifert. Il titolo, attualmente disponibile su PC e iOS, ha conquistato il premio per la miglior narrazione superando candidati di alto calibro come Life is Strange, Tales From the Borderlands e lo stesso The Witcher 3.

Quest’anno la palma di miglior prodotto indipendente è spettata a Rocket League, che si è imposto sull’agguerrita concorrenza rappresentata da Ori & the Blind Forest e Axiom Verge. Nel corso della serata è stato anche annunciato che il gioco, dopo essere approdato su PC e PlayStation 4, esordirà su Xbox One nel corso del 2016.

Da segnalare infine l’assegnazione dell’Industry Icon Award, che in questo caso è andato ai leggendari sviluppatori di Weswood Studios. Dune II ha avuto il merito di far nascere e crescere il genere RTS ed è stato d’ispirazione per molti altri prodotti di grande successo, da Warcraft a Starcraft, fino alla recente esplosione dei Moba come League of Legends e Dota.
